If you have any suggestions, I would still like to try to get Windows 10 running if possible. The Fusion 8 release notes don't point to this restriction, but I don't find any other information and those release notes are old by now. windows 10 stuck in endless repair loop General case open BIOS (see user manual, the most often tap F2 or F9 or F10 or ESC during boot) set boot first device. I concluded that maybe the Model 7.1 hardware was just too old at this point.

I finally gave up after multiple further attempts and reverted to a windows 7 based VM, which installed and started up all the way to the desktop. Helped performance a little, but still got the same "loopy" outcome. I am not sure of the virtual hardware version other than using default settings except a reduction to a minimum 25GB disk and increase to 3GB RAM for most of the tests. The VM was a new one built with Fusion 8.5.10, which is the newest version that supports the Macbookpro7.1 model I am using. The windows 10 file was the most recent ISO when I downloaded it from the Microsoft site (file name is Win10_20H2_v2_English_圆4.iso).
